Why are they called Farmers Ham?
The modern word “ham” is derived from the Old English ham or hom meaning the hollow or bend of the knee, from a Germanic base where it meant “crooked”. It began to refer to the cut of pork derived from the hind leg of a pig around the 15th century.
They can also be a good replacement in the absence of Prosciutto. These slices are an excellent addition to light snacks, they beautifully top a toasted sliced bread, mix well in savory ham & cold cut platters, a great partner to bagels and any other dish in European cuisine.
